Accessibility Statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website, including children, families and professionals using assistive technology.
Our commitment
The website has been designed and tested against WCAG 2.2 AA, including keyboard navigation, colour contrast, 200% text zoom, 320px reflow, screen-reader checks, automated testing and manual review. We continue to review accessibility as the website and its content change.
What this means in practice
- Every text and background combination in the palette has been contrast-checked. Information is never carried by colour alone.
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, and focus is always visible — a two-tone ring that stays visible on white, warm stone, teal-tint and dark navy surfaces.
- The mobile menu is a labelled button, not an icon alone. It opens a full panel, cycles with Tab, closes with Escape and returns focus to the button.
- Headings follow a logical order, with one H1 per page, so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
- Images have descriptive alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
- Form fields have visible labels that stay visible, errors are listed in a summary at the top of the form and repeated beside each field, and autocomplete is used where appropriate.
- Content reflows at 320px and remains usable at 200% and 400% zoom.
- Interactive targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels — our own usability standard, which is stricter than the WCAG 2.2 AA minimum.
- Animation is subtle and switches off automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
- The For Young People pages use larger text, shorter sections, plainer language and keyboard-operable question panels.
- There is no autoplaying audio or video.
